Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 8–10 red chili peppers (bird’s eye, cayenne, or Pharaoh’s Pepper, deseeded for milder heat)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp white or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional, for depth)
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp honey or sugar (optional, to balance heat)
For Adjusting Consistency:
- 2–3 tbsp water (as needed for blending)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Wash and deseed chili peppers if a milder sauce is preferred.
- Mince the garlic and measure out all spices and liquids.
Step 2: Sauté for Flavor Depth
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Toss in the chili peppers and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally to deepen the flavors.
Step 3: Blend Until Smooth
- Transfer the sautéed mixture to a blender or food processor.
- Add vinegar, tomato paste, cumin, coriander, salt, and black pepper.
- Blend until smooth, adding water if needed for desired consistency.
Step 4: Simmer for a Perfect Finish
- Pour the blended sauce back into the saucepan.
- Let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning—add more vinegar for tang, honey for sweetness, or extra chili for heat.
Step 5: Cool & Store for Later
- Allow the sauce to cool completely before transferring it to a jar.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or freeze in small portions for later use.
Notes
- Spice Level: Adjust heat by removing seeds or adding more chili peppers.
- Flavor Boost: Lightly roast the chili peppers before cooking for extra smokiness.
- Thicker Sauce: Add extra tomato paste or let it simmer longer.
- Milder Sauce: Use milder chili varieties like Fresno or red jalapeños.
- Serving Ideas: Great with grilled meats, falafel, roasted vegetables, hummus, and wraps.
