Description

This Costa Rican Pineapple Ginger Tea is a naturally caffeine-free herbal infusion made with ripe pineapple, fresh ginger, and lemongrass—sweetened with rich Costa Rican honey. Served hot or cold, this tropical tea offers a refreshing, immune-boosting experience. Perfect for hydration, digestion, and wellness, it’s an authentic taste of pura vida you can brew at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe pineapple, peeled and chopped (save juice)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger root, thinly sliced
  • 2 stalks lemongrass, lightly crushed
  • 34 tablespoons Costa Rican honey (or high-quality raw honey)
  • 6 cups water
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving cold)
  • Optional garnish: fresh mint sprigs, pineapple slices

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the pineapple into chunks, saving any juice.
  2. In a large pot, combine the pineapple, ginger, lemongrass, and water.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the honey until fully dissolved.
  5. Strain the tea using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
  6. Let it cool slightly before serving.
  7. For a cold version, refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  8. Serve over ice with mint or pineapple slices, or enjoy warm.

Notes

  • For a citrusy twist, add the juice of half a lime after steeping.
  • You can replace lemongrass with mint if unavailable.
  • Use the pineapple core and peels during simmering to reduce waste and enhance flavor.
  • Adjust honey to taste depending on your preference for sweetness.
