Description

Caramel apple upside down cake with gooey caramel, tender apples, and moist cake perfect for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Melt butter with brown sugar in a 9-inch round pan. Arrange apple slices on top.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Cream butter and sugar in another bowl.
  3. Beat in eggs, then add vanilla. Alternate dry mixture with milk until combined.
  4. Spread batter over apples. Bake 35–40 minutes. Cool briefly, then invert onto plate.

Notes

  • Use firm apples for best texture. Grease pan thoroughly. Let cake cool slightly before flipping. Add pecans for crunch.
