Description
Fresh green beans and crispy bacon come together in this quick and easy Southern-style skillet side dish. Sweet, savory, and full of flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ cup chicken broth (optional)
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside, keeping the fat.
- Add diced onion to the skillet. Sauté until translucent, about 4 minutes.
- Add brown sugar, garlic powder, pepper, and green beans. Toss to coat.
- Pour in broth, cover, and simmer for 12–15 minutes. Stir bacon back in and serve.
Notes
Turkey bacon can be used for a lighter option. Maple syrup or honey may substitute brown sugar. Skip broth or replace with vegetable stock. Not recommended for freezing.
