Description

Fresh green beans and crispy bacon come together in this quick and easy Southern-style skillet side dish. Sweet, savory, and full of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ cup chicken broth (optional)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside, keeping the fat.
  2. Add diced onion to the skillet. Sauté until translucent, about 4 minutes.
  3. Add brown sugar, garlic powder, pepper, and green beans. Toss to coat.
  4. Pour in broth, cover, and simmer for 12–15 minutes. Stir bacon back in and serve.

Notes

Turkey bacon can be used for a lighter option. Maple syrup or honey may substitute brown sugar. Skip broth or replace with vegetable stock. Not recommended for freezing.
